Why We Built This

Most online video editors ask you to upload your footage to their servers. That means your personal videos, your client work, your private moments — all traveling over the internet to someone else's hard drive. We thought that was unnecessary and frankly unacceptable.

REEL CUTTER was created to solve exactly that problem. By using modern browser APIs — specifically the Canvas API and MediaRecorder API — we can do professional-grade video trimming, cutting, and watermarking entirely inside your browser tab. Your files never leave your device. Not even for a second.

How It Works

When you drag a video into REEL CUTTER, your browser reads the file locally — the same way a desktop app would read a file from disk. Our JavaScript code then renders frames to an HTML5 Canvas, lets you set trim points on a visual timeline, and re-encodes the selected portion using the MediaRecorder API. The final file is assembled in memory and offered as a download. No cloud. No server-side processing. Just your browser doing the heavy lifting.

This approach works for MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV, and any other format your browser's video decoder supports. Export is available in WebM (fastest) and MP4.
